Why Do Keywords Matter So Much to SEO?

Nowadays, the role of search engine optimization (SEO) keywords in online marketing is diminished to some degree, but it still matters, so being aware of how to use keywords will still give you an edge in the digital marketplace. SEO keywords vary from solo words to complicated phrases and are used to illuminate your site content and thus intensify your organic search traffic. Audiences use them in searching for items or topics that connect with your brand. When well-studied and optimized, keywords function as effective channels for linking your target audience to your website. Thus, keywords are important to online marketing specialists for a number of reasons, including the following.

Keywords Provide Useful Insights into Your Audience

Keywords give you pointers about people’s personal characteristics and desires, thus helping you to better satisfy their wants. This process goes beyond the explicit meanings of the words to their implicit meanings. For example, the search term “safest car seats 2021” tells you the following explicit facts about the searchers: they (1) are concerned about child safety; (2) want to be able to choose from a variety of car seats; and (3) are looking for articles made available in 2021. However, some of the implicit information you can glean from this query is they (1) are likely to be first-time parents; (2) want to know what makes a car seat safe; and (3) are in the research phase and intend to buy later.

Keywords are Like Personas that Provide Marketing Targets

Keywords can provide targets at which marketers can point their content. They reflect personas that act as bulls’ eyes to aim at. They aren’t all you’re seeking, but by taking aim at them, you’re setting yourself up for success. It’s not like you only want to market to 50–65-year-old newly retired professional women who live in the suburbs and love to travel. But this degree of detail and focus helps to ensure you’re attracting the right demographic. On the other hand, if you lack focus and try to appeal to one and all, you will likely end up not reaching your target. It’s an interesting paradox — the more exclusive your target audience is, the larger your actual audience becomes, and vice versa.
