What is a Healthy Social Spend Budget?

The team at Search SEO Chicago considers ourselves a team of digital marketing consultants. We are the guide for our clients, the majority of which are small to medium-sized business owners looking to keep up with an ever-changing digital world. When you work with us, we will do our best to keep your online marketing plan a well-rounded portfolio of a variety of digital marketing interventions. One of those interventions that is proving to be more and more important each year is social media advertising.

If you have a personal social media page, you already know that your newsfeed is one way to discover new companies, services, and products. However, did you know that those ads are targeted to you specifically, and for a price?

Isn’t Facebook Free?

Most of our clients come with the assumption that Facebook and other social media platforms are free advertising opportunities. While that may have been true once before, changing algorithms have nearly eliminated the potential to get your business information out there without paying at least a small fee.

Facebook currently has a “boosting” program where business pages can pay a fee to make a post reach more people. While it does cost money, there are plenty of benefits to this approach. Not only can you choose your target demographic, but you can also potentially get more followers or customers if your boosted content is engaging.

How Much Should I Spend?

You should consider Facebook and other social media sites as an advertising platform and treat it as such. You would expect to pay for an advertisement in a newspaper, and you should tailor your expectations to reflect that via Facebook as well. While each of our clients has a different advertising budget for social media, typically based on goals or current promotions, we do encourage our clients to build in a separate line item for social media advertising.

We can help you develop a responsible budget for social media spending, and give you the biggest bang for your buck. Give us a call to get started today.
